David Brower and Kids

David Brower and Kids

I met and interviewed David Brower a couple times before he died. David, one of our pioneering and outspoken environmentalists, observed that children in the third world with no manufactured toys seemed to be much happier than American kids with all their toys and gadgets. Many primitive tribes spend more time enjoying life than working to buy more stuff.

I have seen kids in refugee camps having fun with junk. As a kid in the 1930’s and 40’S we had no store bought toys and created our own. Fortunately there was a lot of mechanical stuff to take apart to see how it worked and try to make into something else.

What are our kids missing today with one of everything?
